Boardroom cartoon: Snack time

"Owing to the very real threat of biscuit-related injuries, the snack of choice for meetings will now be blancmange."

Anyhoo ... enough about the other cartoonist called Royston, here's a drawing from the current one (click to enlarge). This is the latest in the boardroom series, which I draw regularly for a trade publication. It accompanied an article about the number of accidents caused at work by biscuits. It's quite a lot, apparently!

  1. 'Tis a dangerous thing indeed, a Jaffa Cake....

  2. Jaffa Cakes are on the list as the least dangerous. Yes, because it's not even a biscuit, the clue is in the name! But I'll forgive them as one of my favourite adverts was for Jaffa Cakes. And yes – joy! – it's on YouTube:

  3. I've lost half a tooth before now, munching a custard cream. Mind you, peanuts are just as bad. Have just come back from the dentists where they've had to commit dreadful acts to repair the damage caused by bran flakes.

I'm sure the world's a more dangerous place than it used to be.

  4. Custard creams are number one on the list. Lethal!

  5. Hi,

My name’s David and I work with the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes team on their social media projects. As a Jaffa lover, we’d like to know if you’d like to get involved in a new group we’re starting up.

The group is for the most devoted Jaffa Cakes fans, created to:

    1) Celebrate the fabulousness and smashing tastiness of McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes
    2) Protect McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes from all corners
    3) Have a laugh and a good time while we’re at it

Above this, the really über-devoted fans – the people who eat, sleep, and fantasise the livelong day and night about Jaffa Cakes – will lead the group. That will mean working with the Jaffa Cakes team to decide what we do next (in online, live events, and possibly even new products, depending on what people want to get involved in and how the group develops). They’d talk to us, meet us, and come see Jaffa Cakes being baked in action.

If you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve started the group off with its own dedicated site ( On here people can upload an application to join the group. The fans who show the most love for Jaffa Cakes, and who we think show the most enthusiasm and ability for leading the group, will be offered the chance to lead it.

There’s also our new broadcast site, JCBC news (, which publishes news about the group, its activities, and everything else we create.

How involved you get is obviously up to you and what you want to do, but as you seem to be a real lover of Jaffa cakes we’d be really interested in having you on board.

Take a look through our sites, email or message us back with your thoughts, whether good or bad, and let us know if you’d like to get involved.

  6. Be careful what you post on the internet folks, it's there for ever. You make a casual comment about Jaffa Cakes and *two years later* someone tries to get you to join a cult!

  7. To be fair, they're not just asking you to join, they're giving you the opportunity to lead the cult. Which has got to be tempting, surely.

  8. But I never even said I liked Jaffa Cakes! Though I do, of course. I just said I liked that advert:

  9. I don't think Tom Cruise particularly liked space operas to begin with but look at him now...
