As it's Easter this weekend, here's a cartoon about Jesus, which can be seen in the current issue of Prospect. I used a similar colour palette to the cartoon below, which was in the same magazine in 2011.

Religion cartoon: Keeping it in the family

After two posts about my social life (it's so rare that I have one!) it's time I posted a cartoon on this cartoon blog, so here's one from the November edition of Prospect.

Watching BBC Four's Holy Flying Circus the other day reminded me how much Monty Python's Life of Brian opened the door to allow us all to be a bit non-reverential about religion. A cartoon like this may have ruffled a few feathers once, but it's hard to imagine anyone getting too worked up about it now. Actually, as a former Catholic (and altar boy!) I should probably think that's a bit of a shame.

Phone cartoon: Eyes down

"Let us pray."
I've taken the plunge and bought my first smartphone, so now I resemble one of the characters in this cartoon, which was in The Spectator a few months back. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon and I'll get some feeling back in my neck.

If you look at the web on a mobile phone, then you may like to now that I have now optimised this blog so it looks OK in that format. I say "optimised", this just involved me clicking something once in the Blogger control panel.

Magritte cartoon: But is it art?

I had to explore a few new Photoshop techniques to colour this cartoon, which is in the new issue of Prospect magazine, in an attempt to make it look something like the Rene Magritte original.


For any international readers who don't get the joke, five portions of fresh fruit and veg daily is the official recommendation from the UK government's health experts. I believe it varies in other countries. I heard it was 15 in Japan. I can't even name that many ;- )
